M&A and corporate law
Mr. Rehder represents both buyers and sellers in cross-border acquisitions and sales of companies. These transactions typically range in size from EUR 5.0 million to EUR 150 million. Mr. Rehder negotiates and prepares contracts in both English and German. Mr. Rehder covers all facets of an M&A transaction from non-disclosure agreements to post-closing integration.
Business and commercial law
Mr. Rehder advises clients on day-to-day commercial and business law issues, such as commercial agency and authorized dealer law, general terms and conditions, purchases and sales of individual assets as well as other corporate matters (e.g. production, licensing, and transfer of technologies).
Labor law
Another of Mr. Rehder’s areas of expertise is employment law. This practice includes advising on works council issues, drafting employment contracts, works agreements and severance agreements, as well as advising on entry and immigration issues.

Recently, Mr. Rehder has represented clients in the following M&A transactions and corporate matters:
- Local counsel to a US private equity fund on the sale of a US portfolio company with two German subsidiaries
- Representation of a Pennsylvania-based US private equity fund in the acquisition of a medium-sized German manufacturing company
- Representing the owner of a German manufacturing company (with US subsidiary) as well as a Swiss company in the sale of their companies to a German private equity fund
- Representing a California-based corporation in the acquisition of a Swiss corporation with subsidiaries in Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Poland and Austria (coordination and cooperation with local counsel in each country)
- Representing a German subsidiary of a US company in the sale of individual assets to a buyer in Finland
- Simpson Manufacturing Company, Inc., a US-based listed company in the construction industry, on three separate acquisitions of German limited liability companies (one of the companies with significant production facilities in Ireland)

Mr. Rehder was admitted to the German Bar in 2007 and has been a partner at SCHIEDERMAIR in Frankfurt since 2013.
Mr. Rehder is admitted to practice law in the State of Maryland (since 1990) and the State of Minnesota (since 1995). This makes him one of only a handful of lawyers trained and licensed in the USA who are also licensed to practice law in Germany.
Prior to joining SCHIEDERMAIR, Mr. Rehder worked in the Frankfurt office of JONES DAY (from 2001 to 2013) and focused on M&A, commercial law, employment law and data protection. Previously, he worked in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Frankfurt for FAEGRE & BENSON LLP (1995-2001), where he specialized in M&A, business law, and U.S. securities law. Mr. Rehder began his career at GLEISS LUTZ (from 1992 to 1995) in Stuttgart and Berlin, where he worked in the areas of corporate law and foreign investments in Germany.
Mr. Rehder received his Juris Doctor (JD) (1988) and Master of Arts (MA – International Economics) from the University of Denver (1989). He earned his bachelor’s degree (BA – Economics) from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1984. From 1991 to 1992, he completed a study program in International Law at the McGeorge School of Law in Salzburg.
